ACT! Tips and
Tricks - January, 2003
How can I speed up my ACT! database?
There are several ways to optimize an ACT! database:
- Compress and Reindex the ACT! database every 7 to 14 days, by
going to FILE> ADMINISTRATION>DATABASE MAINTENANCE and click
the REINDEX button.
- Make sure that all completed Activity's have been completed by
going to the Task List, select All Dates and All
Users. If there are a lot of uncleared activities, select
the oldest activity, hold the shift key down and scroll down and
select to the most recent activity that you want to clear.
Hit the Delete key and choose Completed, Not Completed or
Erase.
- Delete all of the .TMP files on your computer.
- If the ACT! database is on a Windows XP, 2000, NT or Novell
based computer, Disable Opportunistic Locking on the server. Click
here for Windows. Click
here for Novell.
- If you have less than
128 MB RAM on your PC, add more memory. A standard 128 MB
SDRAM PC-133 memory module costs about $30.00
How Do I quickly change the Calendar
views?
No matter whether you are viewing a day, a
week or a month in your Calendar View, ACT! always displays a one
month Mini-Calendar in the upper-right corner. You can quickly
change the calendar display from Daily to Weekly to Monthly.
- Double-click any day to display that
day in the Day calendar.
- Double-click the weekday letters at
the top of the calendar to display the current week in Week view.
- Double-click the name of the month to
display the calendar in Month view.
- Right-click the name of the month and
select another month or return to Today.
- When you want to see a quick calendar
without changing to one of the calendar views - press [F4]
to display a 3 month calendar. This works from anywhere in
ACT!
